Meet The Team
The team behind Texas Retirement Council is made up of qualified financial professionals who are passionate about helping individuals and families achieve their ideal retirements.
Jim Hutson BMe 1971, MA 1973
Jim Hutson is the manager of the Texas Retirement Council, an agency of financial professionals on a mission to help clients achieve comfortable retirements.
Jim began his work as an insurance and financial professional in 2001, after a successful 29-year career as a band director in the public schools of the Texas panhandle and south plains.
Jim graduated from Tulia High School in 1967 and went on to West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M), where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education. In 1971, he was appointed to the rank of second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He completed his 14-year military career in 1984, retiring at the rank of captain. Jim began his teaching career at Levelland Jr. High while earning his Master of Arts degree. Jim then spent seven years as band director at Levelland High School before moving to Amarillo in 1983, where he was director of bands for the River Road School District for 18 years.
Jim has served in many leadership positions during his career as a band director, Army reserve officer and financial professional. He served as Band Division Chairman for Region 1 of the Texas Music Educators Association for four years, followed by Region President for another four years. He joined the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors in 2010 and served as NAIFA Amarillo area president in 2015. He has managed the Association’s “Tri-City Sales Forum” for the past four years.
Jim also remains active in the community’s music scene as past president of the Greater Southwest Music Festival, a competitive festival for bands, choirs and orchestras hosting over 12,000 students every year. He conducts the annual “TubaChristmas” project each December, where tuba and euphonium players gather to rehearse and perform unique Christmas music.

Ron Knoy, Founder
Ron has over 45 years of experience in the insurance and retirement planning industry. He is insurance licensed in Texas and holds a master’s degree. Before entering financial services, Ron taught math and coached football, basketball and track for 11 years.
Ron has been married to his wife, Gayle, for over 50 years. They have three children and four grandchildren. Ron revisits his teaching roots by teaching adult Bible study at Coulter Road Baptist Church, where he also serves as a deacon. He is active in the community and has been a Rotary member for over 20 years. In his free time, Ron enjoys playing golf.
Fidelis Fetsch Jr.
Fidelis Fetsch Jr.
Fidelis Fetsch Jr. has worked in the financial services industry since retiring from teaching band in the Texas public schools, including in Sundown, Loop, Archer City, Highland Park (Amarillo) and Nazareth. He recently assumed a regional manager position with Catholic Life but still works actively with agents of the Texas Retirement Council to assist clients with retirement strategies. Fidelis holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from West Texas A&M University.
Fidelis and his wife, Darlene, reside in Canyon, Texas. They are active in the Catholic Church and have two sons, Jeremiah and Joshua.

Tom Knoy is a longtime golf coach and educator in the metroplex area of Texas. He regularly helps his clients to better understand their retirement options and financial strategies and services that can help make a comfortable retirement possible.

Leslie Lee
Leslie Lee
Leslie Lee is a retired educator, having spent a career teaching math and business to students in Texas and Colorado. He began his teaching career as a coach but later moved to the classroom. He has worked in various school districts and retired as a personal business instructor, working with inmates at the Clements Unit in Amarillo. He began his financial services career after retiring from teaching.
Leslie specializes in working with educators and other pre-retirees, helping them better understand their defined benefit retirement plans. He travels extensively around the state and has clients through central Texas and all the way to the coast.
Leslie and his wife, Lynn, enjoy frequent visit with their grandkids in the San Marcos area.

Carmen Pennick
Carmen Pennick
Carmen Pennick is a retired volleyball coach who spent the first part of her career working with young women at the collegiate and high school levels. After retiring from the Dalhart ISD, she began a new career as a financial professional. Today, Carmen lives in Dalhart and works with clients in the northern and northwestern Texas panhandle to provide them with competent, dedicated guidance and service. She was named the Top Agent by the Jim Hutson Agency in 2018.

Charlie Peters
Charlie Peters, a resident of Amarillo, is a veteran insurance agent who focuses on health insurance for seniors and retirement planning for current educators. He spends a lot of time showing his clients how to work with Medicare benefits, supplemental insurance and Medicare Advantage plans. Outside of the office, Charlie loves the outdoors and enjoys hunting.

Chris Robeson is a pastor who has made it a part-time vocation to help educators plan for retirement and navigate the process. He uses his knowledge of annuities and life insurance to help clients maximize their benefits and learn how to retire “in style.” Chris and his wife, Nikki, live in Longview.

Frank Davis
Frank Davis
Frank Davis is a retired teacher (vocal music, elementary education, and theatre) and superintendent of Channing ISD. He worked 35 years in the Channing Public Schools. As a third-generation resident of Gray County, he grew up on a farm south of Pampa, Texas. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1973, and, majored in vocal performance and music education at West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas. In 1981 he completed his master’s in elementary education.
He married Melody Brown in 1977, and they worked together in the Channing Public Schools. Frank finished his mid-management and superintendency certifications in 1992 and was hired as superintendent that same year. Melody and Frank also worked side by side with the University Interscholastic League in theatre, speaking events, and music.
Frank also started in 1977 as choir director at First Baptist Church in Channing, Texas, and continues to be active there as a member, deacon and music director. Melody also serves in many capacities there, too.
Frank and Melody have two adult married children. Elizabeth, daughter and husband Jordan Richard. Jonathan, son and wife Delani. Elizabeth and Jordan have one son, Josiah, and live in Manhattan, New York. Jonathan and Delani have four children, Alayna, Ethan, Elijah, and Abigail and live outside of Stinnett, Texas.
After retirement from the education profession, Frank became a real estate agent. For five years Frank drove back and forth to Pagosa Springs and then Breckenridge, Colorado, to work in the real estate industry.
Jim Hutson guided Frank through retirement and Medicare applications. Because of that relationship and guidance, Frank has decided to join the finance industry. Working with The Jim Hutson Agency will fulfill a continued desire to help others achieve their life’s goals and dreams.

Ronnie Wood is a longtime insurance agent who focuses on company group health insurance plans. After sitting in on a presentation with his wife, Suzanne, concerning TRS retirement, Ronnie decided to join Texas Retirement Council as a retirement specialist. His extensive knowledge of insurance products, strategies and solutions provides clients with a solid base upon which to help build a comfortable retirement. Ronnie and Suzanne are residents of Pampa, Texas.

Joel Olson
Joel Olson
Joel Olson brings 3 decades of systems analysis, software development and user training in complex systems to the retirement planning field. The last twenty years have been spent with Amarillo ISD. Identifying and aligning available resources with user needs has been a hallmark of his career. This translates well to retirement planning, helping future retirees navigate the complex array of products and services available to them now and in retirement. Joel is excited to help Texas educators with their retirement planning.
Joel and his wife Valarie have been happy residents of Amarillo for the past 46 years. Valarie has recently retired from Amarillo ISD and Joel will be following in the near future.
